Jens' advice for moving to Spain: “just jump!”

Hi, I'm Jens! My journey abroad began with a seasonal job in Greece, followed by a few months in Gran Canaria and training in the UK. From there, I found myself in Almería (Spain) for eight months—until the company went bankrupt (totally not my fault, I promise, haha!). After a year and a half of exciting adventures, I landed in Valencia, a city I now call home. Nearly five years later, I'm still here, enjoying life, building friendships, and helping others start their own journeys abroad.

My journey abroad has been a mix of chance, choice, and love—starting in Corfu and Gran Canaria, where opportunities naturally came my way. Almería was my own adventurous pick, simply because no one I knew had been there before. As for Valencia, I moved here for love. While that chapter didn’t last, my love for the city has only grown stronger. 🫶 Over the years, I’ve taken on diverse roles that have shaped my skills and opened doors to new opportunities. Reasons why I took the leap

Moving abroad is always a leap of faith, and I often wondered if I was making the right choice. But some things you’ll never know for sure—and that’s part of the adventure, right? Each new country meant starting from scratch with new hobbies, friends, and routines. It wasn’t always easy, but it was a great opportunity to spend time with myself and embrace the challenge. Making friends took a bit of effort, but by staying open to new connections, I eventually found people I truly clicked with—some of whom became lifelong friends. As for homesickness, it rarely hit me. Sure, I miss certain people and places, but honestly, the thing I miss most? Belgian fries, of course! 🍟🤪

Adjusting to my life in Spain

Finding the right place to live can be quite a journey! Just a week before my move to Valencia, I booked a shared apartment, giving myself three months to search for something better. Those first couple of months were filled with exploration and excitement—wandering through vibrant neighborhoods, chatting with friends and colleagues to learn about the local housing market, and discovering the best areas to call home. I found myself in the city's atmosphere, soaking in the sun and sounds while keeping an eye out for potential flats. Ultimately, my efforts paid off, and I found my ideal flat in Nazaret, a place that truly feels like home! 🏠

Once I settled in, I fully embraced the vibrant lifestyle Valencia offers. Exploring nature became one of my favourite things to do; nothing beats a good hike to uncover natural springs and forests. And, of course, enjoying the sun is essential—whether at the beach or relaxing on a terrace, I love soaking up the rays. But the best part? Vibing with friends at concerts, bars, or enjoying the lively atmosphere from a rooftop, creating unforgettable memories in this amazing city! 😎

Life's best moments are unplanned

Through this experience, I learned a valuable lesson: sometimes, it’s better not to have any plans at all. Embracing flexibility and being open to new opportunities can lead to unexpected adventures. Letting go of schedules allowed me to adapt and enjoy spontaneous moments that often turned into the most memorable experiences, improving my life and personal growth!
