Living and working abroad is undoubtedly an exciting adventure filled with unknowns, new experiences, and challenges. It's a journey that takes us out of our comfort zones and pushes us to grow and adapt in ways we never thought possible. But what if things don't go as planned? We'll explore the stories of Lily, Nina, Eugénie, Daan, and Hannah - who all faced some twists and turns in their adventures abroad. Their experiences reveal that sometimes the worst that can happen, turns out to be the best! 🧡

Melissa's leap to England

Melissa decided to take a leap and move to England, even without a confirmed accommodation. “It was a risky decision, and I considered backing out, but eventually decided to move there anyways.” She chose to live in a hostel temporarily, intending to find a place once she arrived in York. “Surprisingly, my time in that hostel turned out to be one of the best experiences of my life. I made lifelong friends and after a week I moved into a shared apartment with a married couple.” Sometimes, you need to embrace uncertainty and take risks, figuring things out as you go. Don't let the fear of the unknown hinder your dreams of exploring the world. 🌍 In the end, the most unpredictable situations can lead to the most unforgettable adventures.

Nina's unexpected stopover to Australia

Ever been stuck in Bali with no job, no place to stay, and a dream of moving to Australia? That happened to Nina in Bali. 🇮🇩 All together it comes pretty close to the worst thing that can happen. 👩‍🦰 Nina: "Waiting for the visa for Australia didn’t go as planned, but unfortunately there was nothing we could do about it. Luckily, we found a hostel where we could stay in exchange for working there. To this day we are still talking about that hostel and what an adventure it was. I now consider myself a professional in making banana pancakes 🥞🍌" For Nina one of the worst things that could happen, turned out to be an unforgettable experience!

Eugénie's Dutch love story

As a young French girl, Eugénie moved to Barcelona. She booked a room in a shared apartment, without having any idea with whom she was going to live with. Who does she end up with? Three Dutchies! Now, this isn’t what she was expecting when moving to Spain… What she also wasn’t expecting, was to fall in love with one of them! 💑🌷 Now, six years later, she has swapped tapas fur tulips. Who knew an online booking could turn into a love story? Ending up with Dutchies might not have been what Eugénie hoped for when she moved to Spain, but it turned out to be the best thing that could have happened to her!

Daan's Spanish infatuation

Daan's mantra? Don't ask 'What's the worst that can happen?' Instead, it's all about 'What's the BEST that can happen?' 🌟 When he decided to move to Spain for a year, he didn't expect to fall head over heels for the country, the culture, and Spanish way of life 🇪🇸💃. Now, he's saying 'Hasta la vista' to the Netherlands for good, because sometimes the best thing about going abroad is deciding to stay! 🌍✈️

Hannah's Irish twist

When Hannah’s temporary contract was not renewed, she had the world at her feet again. She came across a Yobbers advertisement for a full-time position in the Irish Midlands. “I clicked on the ad and applied. Just because I could!” The moment she decided to take the leap, she let go of everything that could go wrong. Within a month, she set off with a one-way ticket, starting her new job in the city of Athlone, Ireland. And you know what? One of her new colleagues turned out to be the love of her life. 😍 So let go of all your fears and worries, and let life surprise you!

Life is unpredictable, especially when living and working abroad. These stories of Melissa, Nina, Eugénie, Daan, and Hannah remind us that the worst that can happen might lead to the best that can happen. Whether it's unexpected delays, surprising living situations, or unforeseen love connections. So, the next time you find yourself wondering, "What's the worst that can happen?" remember that the best might be just around the corner. 🌍✨
