What paperwork do I need to arrange to live abroad?
Once the application process is done and you receive your job offer, you're not completely finished yet. Some countries or employers require you to collect papers before you can live and work. To make this process as easy as possible for you, we have written the must-have checklist for working abroad! Below, we also list which documents are most important for your favourite destination:
Spain 🇪🇸
When you go to Spain, it is important that you arrange a NIE number. You need the NIE number to open a Spanish bank account, get a mobile subscription, and pay taxes. To apply for an NIE number, you need to go to the nearest police station (Oficina de Extranjería). It is also important that you hold a Certificate of Good Conduct and have a European passport.
Greece 🇬🇷
When going to Greece, it is important to arrange an AMKA number. This number is important for healthcare, employment, pension, and other social security benefits. You can apply for the AMKA number at the local office of the Greek social security agency (ΙΚΑ - Idrima Koinonikon Asfaliseon). You will also need an AFM and AMA number. The AFM number ensures you have a work permit in Greece, and the AMA number you need is a social security number. But don't worry, we will take care of all this when you start working in Greece!
Portugal 🇵🇹
If you are going to work in Portugal, you need to apply for a NIF number. This number allows you to pay taxes, open a bank account, sign contracts, and carry out other financial transactions. To apply for a NIF number, you need to go in person to a local Financial Administration (Finanças) office. In addition, it is important that you have a Certificate of Good Conduct. When you start working in Portugal via Yobbers, the employer will arrange your NIF number!
Malta 🇲🇹
If you start working in Malta, you need a European passport to be eligible for the job vacancies offered here. Applying for an NI number is optional and not necessary for Malta.
Bulgaria 🇧🇬
If your new job starts in Bulgaria, it is important that you arrange an EGN number. You can arrange an EGN number by registering with the municipality. If you are going to work in Bulgaria through Yobbers, the employer often arranges this for you! You also need a European passport to get started.

Is it possible to go abroad with my partner (and children)?
Did you know that you can start your job abroad with a friend or partner? You will even receive €1.000 as a reward! Read more about our referral program here. The jobs offered by Yobbers abroad are generally full-time and usually have a salary that is, on average, lower than in other countries. This is because the cost of living is also lower in these countries and the minimum wage is regulated differently. This can make it challenging to support a family on this salary. It is not impossible, but make sure you have a piggy bank and arrange a nanny, for example!
Are there advancement opportunities for my international career?
When you start your career abroad, you often end up in large companies with many opportunities. For example, you start as a customer service representative, but you can advance to the position of manager of this department and continue to rise further.
